The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — A New Category May Address This Issue

Each time a significant prize-giving event draws close, one notices a clamor for the addition additional classifications to acknowledge unsung work and delight the passions of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

A fellow writer previously argued for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. The same goes for strategy board titles, this being a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front since similar to blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent and important of all. Here's the proposal: We need an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains an essential concession in the world of video games, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these six categories successfully include many game types, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles published annually lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated completely during that awards season
  • Another creative title missed out that year
  • A beloved organization game got ignored in 2021
  • Only a few brain-teasers managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're compact experiences, but the art in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among most engaged experiences globally continuing this trend for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game rivals popular creative games competing to become best-selling game of all time; it also contends for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. You could fill a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

Restating the point, these represent titles without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers function at the hard edge interactive creation, creating some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Just like film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait decades.
